Have I ever mentioned how much I hate going to these? The only joy I find in these events is that I get to dress up. Other than that, it’s a very miserable few hours for me that includes being forced to dance by old ladies, being dragged to the dance floor, me awkwardly dancing in front of old ladies even though I actually am a ballet/tap/jazz dancer. There’s also that awkward feeling that the old ladies put on you like they’re judging you for not being ladylike enough or not following all the silly traditions.
Ugh…I just hate these events.
It also makes me kind of sad that this is one of the only sources of fun (if you can call it that) for a lot of older generation Arab women.
And all the old ladies ever comment on is about when one of the younger girls are going to get married.
I just want to break traditions and eat all the tabbouleh.
I swear I’m the only Muslim-Arab girl I know who…
a. despises seafood
b. does not care for chicken (when I do eat it, it’s chicken breast)
c. loves red meat especially beef
d. does not like her beef well done
